Race start for the Cicero ‘Drought Duathlon’.  This is one of our favorite local triathlons, but since the reservoir is down this year they cancelled the swim and turned it into a run-bike-run.  Pat (#430) finished 2nd overall and Chris (#425) 3rd overall.

Although we didn’t run it this Fourth of July, the Freedom Run is a great 4.5 mile run through Carmel’s Arts and Design District.  It usually starts early enough to avoid the worst of the heat and if you stick around there is a parade that starts shortly after the award ceremony.

Here is a quick time-saving tip for entering T2:  As you get close to the dismount area (about 300-400 yards), take your feet out of your bike shoes while keeping them clipped in.  Keep pedaling with your feet on top while taking a quick break before the transition.  As you near the dismount area, swing one leg over the bike so you can hit the ground running.  This will save valuable time getting into T2!

Thanks for the insight on Iroman Muskoka. Very enjoyable reading. I'm signed up for this years race 2012. You think they'll go back to the Mdot medal? Sure hope so. Thanks again. John — Asked by Anonymous

Glad you liked the review!  I’m not sure if they will go back to the Mdot medal - I wonder if they got much feedback on the maple leaf medal from last year.  I wasn’t too pumped with it, but I also didn’t let anyone official know that.

Good luck at the race, you should have a blast!
